Among the medieval towns in Bosnia, Jajce belongs a special place. Jajce is one of the last bosnian urban settlements with all forms of the urban centers from 15th century. The fortress, city walls, towers, bastions and city gates make this place ​with ​exceptional historical, artistic, symbolic and environmental values. The system of the fortress and defensive walls was built in several phases. Central fortification building, fortress, was built in the middle of 14th century. From it there are two complete defensive walls on the north and west of the medieval city. The most prominent building fortifications on the northern wall is the great bastion, so called "Banja Luka" gate. Other city entrance, "Travnik gate" and big defensive tower called "bear tower" (name was given most probably because of the shape, strength and size, are located in the western wall.
